Smoothie, Spin and A Great Weekend!

17 Nov

Hello Friends!

It’s been one of those weeks.  You know what I mean?  Late nights in the computer labs, group projects, papers–so much to do!  I am looking on the positive side of things though, as Thanksgiving Break is almost here!  I have decided to challenge Hanna and I with a Twin Turkey Trot on Turkey Day…more to come on what that means 😉

Here are some happy highlights from my week!

The lovely remains of my post-workout juice!  I call it juice because I was sadly out of frozen fruit (and too lazy to freeze my bananas), so my smoothie was very thin but still amazing.  In the mix:

  • Water and Almond Milk (I love adding water to smoothies!)
  • Protein Powder
  • Chocolate Pb2—mmmmmmm!
  • Banana

Such a great combo!

One of my favorite workouts of the week included 30 minutes on the treadmill, then 30 minutes on the bike (I was obviously moving in this picture…).  I also used the lat pull down par, free weights and a medicine ball doing Russian Twists to create an awesome workout!  Gym tip:   Never go to the gym on Mondays!  Literally all of campus decides to work off their weekend, so all of the machines are taken.  But by Friday, most of the gym has cleared out (sad, but true).

Quality time with Mr. Foam Roller!  If you don’t have one already, I would suggest you invest–they are wonderful 🙂

Off to tackle yet another essay 😦  Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!

Oregon Bound!

6 Sep

Hey blog world!

It’s Haley here! As you read this post, I am travelling to Oregon, to be reunited with Hanna for a week of celebrating our 21st birthday. We’re looking forward to eating at Hanna’s favorite spots, baking our birthday cake, and decorating her house for the festivities with our friends. We are still going to focus on our fitness and have plenty of workouts together!

My week was filled with last minute packing, meetings, and errand running, but I did find a moment to whip up a delicious smoothie that I am going to share with you all. Taking my inspiration from Julie’s Mocha Green Monster Smoothie, I got to work and came up with great results! (Also, if you haven’t read Hanna’s smoothie post, check it out!).

Spinach stole the show in my smoothie–it is such a great source of nutrients!

Haley’s Delicious Spinach Smoothie:

2 Large Handfuls of Spinach
A splash of Almond Milk
1 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
1 Scoop Vanilla Flavored Whey Protein Powder (I buy mine at Trader Joes)
1 Banana, frozen (We keep frozen bananas on hand so that we can make smoothies often!)

Blend until smooth and drink up!

Hanna and I love smoothies–so quick and easy! As college students, taking a healthy drink on the go for breakfast is perfect 🙂

Let us know in the comments below what you like best in your smoothies. Any smoothie tips we should know about?

Check back on Monday to hear more about our first few days together!

Lovin’ My Smoothies

4 Sep

Smoothies. I had them every once and a while this summer, but only when I really, REALLY felt like one.

I’ve been converted! The past few weeks have been crazy (starting school again, adjusting to living off campus, cooking my own meals, total responsibility for myself, etc.) and for one reason or anther, smoothies have become my GO TO meal. Breakfast? Check. Lunch? Check. Dinner? Check.

It also helps that my roommates have cars, which equals weekend trips to Costco!

Big bag o’ strawberries, anyone?

Here are a few of my favorites from the past week few days:

2013-09-01 12.30.20

2013-09-03 20.07.46

The usual mix:

2 Costco frozen strawberries

1/2 frozen banana

Handful of spinach

Scoop of TJ’s vanilla yogurt

A few splashes of almond milk

Directions: Blend and serve in a to-go cup. Those 8am classes have nothin’ on me with a smoothie in hand!

How do you blend?

Quite Possibly the Best Smoothie Ever

1 Aug

We love smoothies. They are easy to make, simple to clean up after, and healthy (if done right). This week has been a little hectic and as Hanna is getting ready to go back to school in 2 weeks, we are trying to come up with quick, simple meal options. Our elaborate plan to become master chefs before heading back to school was thwarted by both of us landing full time jobs. Don’t get us wrong, working hard and making money is great, but less time in the day=less time to cook.

We also thought it was also time to try out our new Cuisinart Smart Sticks (aka tiny, powerful blender).

In the mix went:

Frozen bananas and pineapple chunks

And Orange Peach Mango juice.

We see a lot of smoothies in our future 🙂 Easy! Fast! You can even drink it right out of the cup you blended it in.

What do you put in your smoothies?
