Weekend Recap!

Hey everyone!

How was your weekend?  I know my week has been crazy so I was looking forward to the weekend since Monday!  I am happy to report that I am fully recovered from my half marathon last Sunday.  I am so glad to have a new running route too!  I found out that my official race time was 2:06:44.  Not too shabby for my first half, and I even beat my goal time by 3 minutes!  Next time, the goal is to run a sub-2 🙂

My week was full of late nights doing homework, writing essays and preparing for internship interviews–junior year is quite hectic!  Here are some of the highlights:

Taco Salad night!  I definitely ate over half of it before I remembered to take a picture 🙂

My new favorite fall treat–Pumpkin Spice Via (pardon the blurry picture, not sure what happened!).  I heated vanilla almond milk in the microwave, then added a packet of the via to create a delicious treat reminiscent of the Pumpkin Spice Latte!

My First Half Marathon Experience!

I just finished my first HALF MARATHON!  After a summer of training, getting Hanna to run with me and some hiccups along the way, I completed it!

On Saturday, I went to the expo to grab my race bib, t-shirt and race info.  This was a pretty small race, so the expo wasn’t very exciting, but I started to feel pumped to be around so many of the runners that I would see during the race!

This morning, I woke up, got ready, then headed to the starting line to warm up with my trainer (my lovely boyfriend) before the race started at 9:30.  I was so nervous, but I could feel the energy of the runners, which was encouraging!  The course was beautiful and I felt so accomplished when I was finished.  Am I happy with my time? Yes!  Could I have done better? Yes!  I felt like I didn’t eat and drink enough before and during the race, which led to me being very low-energy at times.  Next time, I am going to be smart about my fueling.

Distance-wise, I really enjoy running 13.1.  The furthest that I had ever gone before today was 10 miles (which I love!), so I was proud of what I did today.

Next on my running bucket list? A full marathon, of course!

Weekend Update: Move in Time!

It’s Haley, back with an update on my action-packed weekend!

This morning, I went on a hilly 6 mile run and the training plan has me running a 10 mile long run on Sunday!  It’s already safe to say that I’ve caught the running bug, so I’m looking to a very satisfying (but also challenging) weekend of running 🙂  I will be travelling this weekend, so I am all prepared for my weekend workouts away from home:

Confession time:  My running gear always has to be packed in a separate bag when I travel (the pink striped one) because 1. I have so much and 2. It’s so smelly.   I always bring gels, my running shoes, socks, shorts, different shirt options and sports bras (after forgetting my sports bra one time while travelling I NEVER forget).  I’m rather high maintenance if you can’t already tell 😉

This week, I had some yummy eats that I would like to share with you.  Seriously, you must try to recreate these easy and delicious meals!

My favorite lunch of the week: Spinach Salad!  The salad has spinach, chicken, oil and balsamic for dressing, and an (super overripe, hence the gross color) avocado!  I LOVE avocados, and now I’m trying to get Hanna to like them too.  Healthy fats + Deliciousness = Perfect.  Yes, I forgot a fork, so I ate my salad with a spoon #sorrynotsorry

Snacktime!  Melted smoked gouda cheese on whole wheat bread, topped with a tomato/onion/cilantro salsa.  Yum!

Terrific 21 Updates!

It’s Monday! As you can see above, we had quite the successful weekend, as far as workouts go. Hanna experimented with the Nike+ Running app (if you haven’t heard, we just got Iphones!) and proceeded to log over 5 miles on Sunday (Haley did 6 for the first time ever!).

The summer has gone by so fast, but we are trying to stay on track with our Terrific 21 plan. Consistent workouts, a commitment to clean eating and positivity–all around some great goals to aim for. Here is our full list of achievable goals:

As we are increasing our mileage each week, remembering to stay hydrated is a must! This week, a major goal is to focus on our water intake. Seriously, our coffee-to-water ratio is embarrassing #coffeelove

Also, we are trying to eat clean by avoiding processed foods. Clean eating=happy tummies! More recipes and food ideas to come as we continue to experiment in the kitchen!

Monday Motivation: Week Two

It’s Monday!

This starts week two of our Terrific 21 plan, our personal efforts to get in shape and start a healthy lifestyle!  After thinking of goals that we want to achieve over the summer (our plan will officially end near our birthday in mid-September), we came up with an achievable plan.

Terrific 21 Plan

This week, we are keeping it simple by focusing on two goals, drinking more water, and focusing on our eating.  We have been SO BAD about our water intake lately (coffee has become our water replacement, which is terrible), which is having a negative impact on running performance 😦

To keep us (and you!) motivated this week, here is our new motivational quote:

This weekend, we were motivated to follow Haley’s training schedule (3 miles on Saturday and 4 on Sunday) and even found some great routes to mix it up!  4 miles at a time is a stretch for both of us (we are still building endurance) so we were proud of the accomplishment.  It was strangely humid on Sunday (not a PNW thing during summer at all) so it felt so good to finish those 4 miles on Sunday.

Today, and this week, is about moderation, motivation, and staying on track.  We are making a promise to ourselves and to the blogging community to stick to our goals.  We want to succeed, and the only way to get there is to follow our little plan and hold ourselves accountable.  As we go through this week we are going to stay positive and just keep getting better!
