Fitness App Love

12 Nov

Hello All!

I have a crazy Tuesday, but I wanted to show you my new favorite thing…the Nike Training Club App!

2013-11-05 19.31.29
I love the 15 minute workouts they give you, and man are they killer!  My abs are sore for DAYS after doing the Core Crunch 🙂

Do you use this app?  What are your favorite quick workouts?

Cross Training Time!

5 Nov

It’s Tuesday!  It has been so cold lately in the mornings that I have been waiting until the afternoon to do my workouts (yes, sometimes I’m a wimp).  I have been loving my afternoon gym time–running on the tredmill, then doing weights and some of the machines.  Confession time:  I totally race the person next to me on the tredmill 🙂  Do you ever do that?

Ready to run!

2013-10-29 09.20.34

On days when I don’t feel like doing the tredmill or if my knees hurt, I go for the spin bike!  I don’t really have a set speed, or “class” that I write down, but I just push myself and increase the resistance to make it a tough workout.  On the subject of Spin, congrats to Aurora for training to teach it!

What are your favorite cross-training workouts?

New Running Plan!

15 Oct

It’s Tuesday! Today I (Haley) am checking in on the blog with an update on my training. While I am not training for any race in particular, I really want to continue running and be in “training mode” with my workouts. What does my weekly fitness schedule look like, you ask?

2013-10-12 14.38.23

After reading this book (I have no idea why the picture was so blurry) I looked at my weekly schedule and came up with a game plan. Here’s what a week will look like:

Monday–Pilates and Core Day (my active rest day)
Tuesday–Track Workout! This consists of a 10 minute warm up, 4 x 100 meter strides, and 800 x 6 with 90 second Recovery Intervals
Wednesday–Cross Training (aka Spin!) and Core
Thursday–3-5 Mile Run
Friday–Tempo Workout! This consists of a 1 mile warm up, 2 miles at 9 minute pace, and 1 mile cool down
Saturday–5-6 Mile Run
Sunday–Long Run! I will normally do 8-10 miles at regular long run pace

What do you think? How are you training this week?

Ode to Chocolate Milk.

8 Oct

Do you want to know the perfect way to recover after a long, hard run? Chocolate milk.

2013-10-03 15.38.05

And not just any chocolate milk–peanut butter chocolate milk! Let me back up a bit first. A fellow runner friend of mine was drinking this lovely concoction and raved about how it was like drinking liquid peanut butter cups. I was immediately sold! I love the chocolate / pb combo and it sounded delicious. After my race, I had the chance to go pick some up for myself and man, is it good! With 20 grams of protein it’s the perfect way to recover. However, there are a ton of calories, so be careful with the serving size 🙂

Do you like chocolate milk like I do?

*Note: I am not affiliated with Darigold, nor am I being compensated for this post. I just love this new product!

Weekend Recap!

7 Oct

Hey everyone!

How was your weekend?  I know my week has been crazy so I was looking forward to the weekend since Monday!  I am happy to report that I am fully recovered from my half marathon last Sunday.  I am so glad to have a new running route too!  I found out that my official race time was 2:06:44.  Not too shabby for my first half, and I even beat my goal time by 3 minutes!  Next time, the goal is to run a sub-2 🙂

My week was full of late nights doing homework, writing essays and preparing for internship interviews–junior year is quite hectic!  Here are some of the highlights:

Taco Salad night!  I definitely ate over half of it before I remembered to take a picture 🙂

My new favorite fall treat–Pumpkin Spice Via (pardon the blurry picture, not sure what happened!).  I heated vanilla almond milk in the microwave, then added a packet of the via to create a delicious treat reminiscent of the Pumpkin Spice Latte!

What did you do this weekend?

My First Half Marathon Experience!

30 Sep

I just finished my first HALF MARATHON!  After a summer of training, getting Hanna to run with me and some hiccups along the way, I completed it!

2013-09-28 14.24.18-2

On Saturday, I went to the expo to grab my race bib, t-shirt and race info.  This was a pretty small race, so the expo wasn’t very exciting, but I started to feel pumped to be around so many of the runners that I would see during the race!

This morning, I woke up, got ready, then headed to the starting line to warm up with my trainer (my lovely boyfriend) before the race started at 9:30.  I was so nervous, but I could feel the energy of the runners, which was encouraging!  The course was beautiful and I felt so accomplished when I was finished.  Am I happy with my time? Yes!  Could I have done better? Yes!  I felt like I didn’t eat and drink enough before and during the race, which led to me being very low-energy at times.  Next time, I am going to be smart about my fueling.

Distance-wise, I really enjoy running 13.1.  The furthest that I had ever gone before today was 10 miles (which I love!), so I was proud of what I did today.

Next on my running bucket list? A full marathon, of course!

Training Update!

10 Sep

Happy Tuesday! It’s Haley, checking in with a half marathon training update! First of all, can we talk about how much I love long distance running?!? On Sunday morning, I went on a lovely 10 mile run, as per my training plan.

2013-09-08 07.18.52

Gorgeous view like this one make waking up at 6am totally worth it! This was at Mile 6 of my run when I stopped to take a fuel break and eat a gel.

2013-09-08 07.18.56

So pretty! Although my body was tired this week and I was running at a slower pace this time, I kept at a steady pace until I fell. What?? Yes, I took my first tumble ever as an official runner! I am so terrible about not picking my feet up when they start getting tired, so I tripped over them (embarrasing!) and fell flat on my face.

2013-09-08 08.13.11

That’s my elbow if you were wondering 🙂 Luckily I didn’t break anything! Other than my fall, the run was successful and I have been feeling great ever since. Here’s to a great week of running ahead!

What have you been doing to stay active this week?
