Time for Yoga!

26 Nov

Hey There!

Are we excited that today is the last day of school before Thanksgiving Break?  Um yes! Even though Hanna and I have so much homework to do over the long weekend (really, teachers?!?) I am so ready to be home for a while.  Today, I thought I would share some of my yoga knowledge with you.  If you didn’t know this, I take a yoga class two days a week, and I absolutely love it!  It complements my running quite well, and is a great way to relax too.  So without further ado, grab your yoga mat and lets get going!

If you already know how to do the pose, then great!  If not, click on the links below to learn how.  You will be a yogi in no time!

All About Arms

29 Oct

Hello all!

I don’t know about you, but I have been neglecting my arm workouts, like, big time.  I run and do abs (my favorite ab workout is Cassey’s Victoria Secret Abs video!) but I am slacking in doing weights on a regular basis.

2013-10-22 08.10.10

…which is why I am turning over a new leaf!  As the weather gets colder, I find myself gravitating towards the gym for my morning workouts, so that I can get my cardio in on either the bike or tredmill.  So now, I have started to add weights into my routine, which looks something like this:

*Note:  I use 7.5-10 lb free weights and then set the machines to usually between 40-60 lbs, depending on how I feel

First, I use the Lat Pull Down machine (My trouble area, and therefore my favorite machine to use!).

With the free weights, I lift for quantity and quality, not trying to push myself to use a 20 lb+ weight when I know I can’t lift it.

I also love planks!  Not only do they strengthen the core, but they also provide a great workout for the arms.

How do you build arm strength?

Ode to Chocolate Milk.

8 Oct

Do you want to know the perfect way to recover after a long, hard run? Chocolate milk.

2013-10-03 15.38.05

And not just any chocolate milk–peanut butter chocolate milk! Let me back up a bit first. A fellow runner friend of mine was drinking this lovely concoction and raved about how it was like drinking liquid peanut butter cups. I was immediately sold! I love the chocolate / pb combo and it sounded delicious. After my race, I had the chance to go pick some up for myself and man, is it good! With 20 grams of protein it’s the perfect way to recover. However, there are a ton of calories, so be careful with the serving size 🙂

Do you like chocolate milk like I do?

*Note: I am not affiliated with Darigold, nor am I being compensated for this post. I just love this new product!

Sunshine Award on TwinEats

9 Sep

Guess What?

We were nominated by Miranda for the Sunshine Award–thanks, girl!

So, without further ado…

Here are the rules:
1. Include award logo in a post or on your blog.
2. Link to the person who nominated you.
3. Answer 10 questions about yourself.
4. Nominate 10 bloggers to receive the award.

Miranda asked us the following questions:

1. Who is your healthy living inspiration?

2013-07-27 09.19.17

We inspire each other to be the best that we can be, every single day! Whether we are together or apart, we share meal ideas, our fitness plans, and we push each other to the limit so that we can be confident in ourselves and focused on pursuing our dreams.

2. If you could succeed in one thing, what would it be?

That’s a tough one. We both are super focused on our school work, so our goal has always been to succeed academically.

3. Would you rather be always believed or always right?

Always believed. We are both big on being honest and we have been raised to always live a lifestyle that reflects honest behavior. Although, as type-A people, it’s always tough NOT being right, but nobody is perfect! 🙂

4. Do you like wearing matching clothes to workout, or do you just throw on whatever?

Whatever is clean (or semi-clean…)! The idea of matching seems great, but when it comes down to it, we normally are both working out in super clashing colors and mismatched socks. #YOLO

5. What’s your go-to fitness routine?

2013-08-18 08.23.01

Haley–RUNNING! (I’m a little obsessed if you can’t tell)

Hanna–Pop Pilates videos from Blogilates, and running with Haley

6. Would you rather get everything for free from Reebok, or from Lululemon?

We love Reebok! A closet full of athletic clothes is every healthy living blogger’s dream, right?

7. What’s your dream job?

Hanna–A public relations professional in the tech industry

Haley–An advisory professional at an accounting firm

8. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

We love the idea of travel, and would love to do so while we are young. Some exotic place like the Bahamas would be nice to travel to, before we become “real working girls”.

9. What’s the biggest healthy living tip you would give to someone?

Haley says: Never give up! Even if you don’t think you are seeing results right away, they will come! Just believe in yourself, stay committed to your goals, and don’t let anything or anyone stop you.

10. What’s a random fact about you?

Hanna can do this random raising of one eyebrow thing. It is absolutely hilarious and makes anyone smile. Exhibit A:

5. Do you have a gym membership, or do you like at home workouts better?
6. Who is your celebrity fitness icon?
7. What was your most recent fitness related purchase?

Tuesday Twin Tips: How Having a Partner in Crime Can Help (and Derail) Your Diet

30 Jul

Everything is better in pairs, isn’t it? shoes, scoops of ice cream, sisters and of course, workout buddies! If you couldn’t tell already from the countless selfies of us ALL over Twin Eats, Haley and I are pretty close.

2013-07-27 09.19.17

We sleep in the same room, eat the same foods, workout together when we are both home from college. We have each other’s back. But, this kind of close isn’t without, ahem, issues, specifically in the health department. Yeah, we may eat the same foods, but who said anything about it being good food?

Bottom line: workout buddies can be both good news and bad news.  Let’s start with the good news, shall we?

  • A workout buddy can provide you with just enough motivation to get out of bed for a workout. Believe me. It happened this weekend. Had it not been for Haley, I wouldn’t have gotten up at 6am on a Saturday morning.

  • A buddy can provide you with a benchmark. Something to work toward. I run faster when I see Haley (speed demon) up ahead. Even though I many not always be able to keep up. its something I can strive for. Who knows? Maybe, just maybe I’ll be able to someday.

And now for the bad news…

  • When your resolve is thin, a buddy can be the last thing standing between you and that brownie/bowl of ice cream/your dessert of choice. That means, when they cave, you cave.  The one upside? You have someone to sympathize with when you regret it 30 minutes later.

  • The flip side of having someone to emulate is that there is a constant tendency to play the comparison game. Let’s be honest here. Even though Haley and I are technically identical twins, our bodies are not 100 percent identical! They will never be. But that is one of the things that makes us unique 🙂

Who do you turn to for motivation? Do you have a workout buddy?

Pinterest Inspired Tuesday: Fitness Jewelry

11 Jun

Haley and I are HORRIBLE secret keepers–keeping secrets from each other I mean.  We cannot surprise each other with gifts–it just doesn’t work. Freshman year I bought Haley and I matching TOMs for our birthday like 2 months in advance.  She knew what she was getting like an hour after I bought them.  We have gotten very good at being “fake surprised” to fool our parents into thinking we had no idea 🙂

Nowadays, I always think of good gift ideas for Haley and immediately share them with her because I know that keeping it a secret just will never happen. A few days ago I told her I had come across a potential present (WE ARE TURNING 21 IN SEPTEMBER! HELLO ADULTHOOD!) but I never actually got around to telling her yet! So, I thought I would continue our tradition of secret breaking by sharing my present idea on our blog!

The other day, I was on Pinterest and came across…exercise jewelry! Sounds weird, but I love the idea. My workouts are a lot stronger when I feel motivated and motivational bracelets may be just what I need to stay motivated this summer!

Here are a few of my favorites:

What do you think of fitness jewelry? Yes or No?

I have an obsession.

13 May

I have an obsession, and that obsession is with Mad Men.

Have you ever seen it? I can’t decide what I love best: the clothes, the personalities, the drama, the ADVERTISING??

I am half way done with the 5th season, which means that pretty soon here I will run out of new episodes to watch! What will I do?

Enter Mad Women, a book providing witty insight into what the “Mad Men era” advertising business was like for WOMEN. Absolutely fascinating.  If you are obsessed with interested in advertising, business, or even how women struggled to balance work/marriage/raising a family you MUST read this book!

Needless to say, I have not been able to put this book down (have you ever done that??)
In fact, I read it while…

eating awesome pork sandwich leftovers, and even…

while working out (I only did 20 minutes of cardio yesterday, but somethin’ is better than nothin’ am I right?)

and then I sat on the couch until I finished it (summer break is the BEST! For those of you still in school (Haley, Miranda) YOU CAN DO IT! Gianna and I are going to have some well deserved fun 😉

(Sidenote: Do you guys like the blog so far? Feel free to comment below or shoot us a quick email at twineats@gmail.com! We would love to hear from you)
